G40 Glock - If it seems presumptuous to suggest that Glock pistols have no manual, we must ask: to whom,
, do they need training? This Austrian oleo on a lightweight and super stiff polymer frame; Safe-Action Trigger System; steel slide and bucket; And the total size of only 34 pieces is iconic to say the least. Despite the military/SOF review, law enforcement and civilian applications seem to leave little unknown. And there is another 30 years of evidence that they are virtually indestructible and incredibly reliable.
G40 Glock
Glock. Very well then, on to business. Few cartridges can top 10mm easily, and even fewer pistols can demonstrate the long-range capabilities of Glocks.

We start our look at the G40 with our legal friends - if we have one - we can call it an "anti-interest speech", meaning consensus: we are 10-month-old fans and normal. Glock predecessors in caliber are a huge part of the "why". Another 10mm fan will understand: unlike many other guns in this caliber that have come and gone, there are still plenty of early G20s out there—the original Glock 10mm.
No doubt it was a bit of a smart move in 1991. When most 10's failed to hit the market in any numbers at all (Bern Ten of Sonny Crockett/Don Johnson / "Miami Vice" fame) or were quickly disbanded in consciousness. Of the Norma preloads (many owners of Colt Delta Elite or Smith & Wesson 1006 are sad
Lamented), there are a lot of elbows on the store shelves, and a lot of cache. This is the latest from then Director of Strategic/Tactical Gun, as well as the father of the cartridge concept, Col. Jeff Cooper. "What 9 months won't do at all," Col. Cooper said that "the .45 will do well at 25 yards, and the 10mm at 75.
Ballistics says this is true, even though the bullet and sun powder don't allow the cartridge to really shine. Meekness to correct the visible flaws - machine gun and punish back - is actually the basis for a better name - the .40 S&W. But with the introduction of the more manageable .40s, the power like the power in the autoloader is the draw in the first place. It took patience and persistence to stay 10mm ventilated, and only for a Glock, the options were limited.

Like its G20 parent, the G40 is still a big gun by any measure. It further smooths proportions (8.19 inches of sight) reminiscent of the 17L (9mm) and 24 (.40 S&W), though the sight radius length only now matches its actual usable cartridge. As a Gen4, it Also features a nice improvement in grip ergonomics - including optional backstraps and flows for those with larger gloves. The reduction of the setting also allows the unsuspecting players to get back into the game: many volunteers told us that the previous 10 words were just too big, but the G40 proves that Both comfortable and safe.

The "hard and safe" became the main factor in our evaluation. In its first claims, the 10mm very deliberately dominates the .41 Magnum in terms of power. "Wallop" has to come out on top. But to preserve the old rifle, the 10mm has been sped up and underpowered by many ammo companies. good news? This product is the selling point of the G40.
Those power levels still exist today, and while still relevant for a truck, 400 to 460 foot-pounds. (The 180 grain government FMJ is a good performer at this range, producing sub 1 inch 5 shot groups and very smooth riding), the 10mm as a cartridge with the G40 as auto Fortunately, loads from Hornady, Corbon , Buffalo Bore and Double Tap bring back a selection of cartridges at or near their original power.

We broke into our (now small) stockpile of genuine 170-grain JHP Norma to compare it with the current stock of both power ranges. Our range is therefore we shoot it for both ballistic data
In fact, although the latter is understandable. Still, all five shots easily hit the 8-inch plate at 50 yards (rested), and the chronograph's highs are impressive: 1379 ft/s and 717 ft-lbs of force. It's not bad for a quarter-ball that's a year old and looks empty and stands at the factory. New "full power" designs from Corbon ranged from 560 ft.-lbs. (200 grain FP fly anvil) for 727 ft.-lbs. JHP - 1,558 ft/sec thunderbolt).
A few thoughts emerged from our test. The expansion chambers in the early Glocks helped build a reputation for reliability, but are difficult to eject (overexpansion). The first 10 months of strength will only reveal this effect, especially if the mesh/edge is beyond the food of the barrel. Asymmetric bumps are a dead giveaway to the look of the early brass-based Glock. This seems dangerously close to record breaking and worries 10mm fans - not entirely without reason.
Such a bump has long since disappeared in weaker calibers, and we could see no evidence of it in the issues fired from our G40 either. Visual inspection and the fact that resizing in a reloading press never gave a hint of a bulge (although the whole Norma case looks good, and easily resized). Also, always check these conditions carefully for signs.
Three Handguns Hunters Want
The second is a deadly convenience: in a word, we find it surprising, even at full strength, the first norm and modern sequels. Granted, you can't go wrong with a 9mm, but for a cartridge that matches black bear or deer with the right shot placement (check your state's laws), the G40 offers the 10mm superbly. Controllable and only allowed with proper treatment and direction.
A third part is perhaps a little more mysterious: a strong 10mm case, a variety of bullet weights, and very good accuracy (our book Sierra called the 10mm "a proper cartridge, routinely producing sub-inch 10-part groups..." ) becomes The caliber is attractive for loaders. As a shotgun, or a long-range rifle for other purposes, the G40 will (soon) prove to have few equals. If you want, you can shoot the new Glock one way only with the factory supplied sight or for sale and aftermarket sight.
We saved the best for last. In addition to all the other great Gen4 features, the G40 comes with Slide Optics Modular, or MOS. If you want, you can shoot the new Glock well with the factory or aftermarket sights (our friends at Hiviz, we know, have their litewave and tritium). you will enjoy it.
But if your peepers aren't what they used to be—certainly not us—you can now add a reflex or "red dot" sight to your G40 in about 10 minutes. With the filler plate removed, the machine works in a slide in addition to one of the four bottom plates (sane, easily supplied) which allows installation of almost any find micro reflex function you can list. With sights like that, the 10mm is at least a hundred yard gun, and an accurate one too. Especially with the lighter bullets in the power loads, zip, shooting out to 100 yards is no problem.
Glock G40 Gen 4 Mos
Arguably, in its fourth incarnation, the tenth month stubbornly clings to the killing of lives. Perhaps now it is clear why: at least the cartridges can easily start producing the 10mm, and even fewer pistols can show the long potential of Glocks. In the G40, the Austrian masterpiece has reached the pinnacle of performance and quality.
If you don't know about the red dot's intent, you might want to: the optical dots they're based on give both clear targets
A clear picture of the goal. This is a great understanding if 20/20 is good memory. Simply, they allow your remote medicine (whether through glasses, contact or surgery) to display a clear image, and then place a real dot - representing the impact of the shot - on the target. Since it is not a technology like a laser, it does not "compete" with sunlight, the dot seems to shine in the right light. Also, there is no need to concentrate the point. If the dot is on your target, the bullet will hit that dot (if all goes well) even if the dot itself appears to be off the center of the optical window.
We chose the Trigicon RMR for our test, although mounts are offered by a host of other manufacturers: EOTech, Doctor, Burris Fastfire, and Leupold DeltaPoint, just to name a few. This rugged little bug is well known in military circles for good reason. Incredibly tough and has a battery life measured in

, our model provides a very accurate 3.25 MOA dot at our disposal. That makes 8-inch plates at 50 yards (no pressure), and 12-inch over 50 percent
